OUR STORY

Women's Wire launched in July 2016 as a resource to inform and motivate feminists in DC to take action on the issues they care about. Since then, our readership has expanded across the US and internationally. In our weekly newsletter, we spotlight feminist news at the intersection of gender, racial, and economic justice, and other issues impacting cis and trans women, gender nonconforming people, and BIPOC communities. We also share opportunities for advocacy, activism, and volunteering, and amplify jobs in the social justice sector. We value inclusivity and diversity in all forms and the goal of our platform is to shine a light on injustices, particularly those experienced by marginalized communities.

We hope you’ll subscribe to our weekly newsletter and join our thriving community of feminists across the US and beyond!

DEVON (SHE/HER), FOUNDER & CHIEF ACTION OFFICER

Devon started Women's Wire in July 2016 because she believes that sharing information and connecting people with ways to take action is one path towards progress. With a background in strategic communications and media relations, Devon works for DC-based nonprofit Generation Hope.

As a Washington, DC native, Devon is passionate about making life better for DC-area families. Outside of work hours you can find her advocating on issues of maternal health and early childhood education—two areas that are strongly impacted by systemic racism and the oppression and marginalization of Black women. Devon loves running around the city with the District Running Collective, and checking out the vibrant DC food scene. Devon graduated from Pitzer College in Claremont, California with a B.A. in Political Studies and Environmental Studies and a minor in Spanish.

PRIYA (SHE/HER), CHIEF STORYTELLING STRATEGIST

Priya (she/her) is a storyteller and impact strategist with a deep commitment to gender and racial justice. She joined Women’s Wire in February 2017, and leads on storytelling strategy. She is the Director of Strategy & Advocacy at Breakthrough

A longtime resident of Bethesda, MD, and recent transplant to New York, Priya has also lived in Bangladesh, India, and the UK. In her spare time, Priya enjoys watching live theatre; listening to Norwegian news podcasts (her dad is from Bergen, Norway); decorating her apartment in fresh flowers; and indulging in spicy food and all manner of chocolate desserts. Priya gets energy from people, kindness, vibrant colors, and the performing arts. She is a classically trained soprano.

Priya holds an MA, with distinction, in gender and international development from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is trained in feminist approaches to program design and evaluation.

CAROLYN (SHE/HER), CHIEF OF OPERATIONS & STAFF

Carolyn is a gender, queer, and racial justice activist based in Brooklyn, NY. Carolyn received both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Gender Studies and is dedicated to a life and career advocating for social justice. She works at a reproductive health start up providing accessible and affordable birth control to underserved communities across the US. Carolyn’s dream is to advocate for social justice, specifically supporting reproductive justice, queer rights, and anti-racist initiatives, through progressive initiatives and education.

In her free time, Carolyn loves playing her acoustic guitar and singing indie rock and folk music (think Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens). She also loves to practice yoga, cook, and read fiction that centers queer, sex-positive, and feminist themes and characters.

SELLY (SHE/HER), CHIEF OF BRANDING & MARKETING

Selly is a brand storyteller and marketer based in San Francisco, CA. She enjoys learning about, evaluating and disrupting the systemic and cultural forces which cause sexism, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, ableism and fatphobia to be normalized in our society. She is also passionate about improving media access and literacy and creating opportunities for learning and action for people across backgrounds - which is a big part of why the Women's Wire mission appealed to her.

In her free time, she listens to (a staggering amount!) of podcasts, makes art, reads lots of fiction, and consumes and discusses pop culture in all its forms. She is a self-proclaimed "bad feminist", and loves this Roxane Gay quote: "I embrace the label of bad feminist because I am human. I am messy. I’m not trying to be an example. I am not trying to be perfect. I am not trying to say I have all the answers. I am not trying to say I’m right. I am just trying—trying to support what I believe in, trying to do some good in this world, trying to make some noise with my writing while also being myself.”
